This is an archive of all of my projects from Digital Media Workshop. This class gets it's own category since I have a lot I needed to showcase from it! Below are all of my Workshop projects placed in order of completion.
"All Spaced Out". Fall 2021.
For my first DMD Workshop project, I was tasked with creating a banner design based on the prompt "The Future Is..."
We were told to interpret this in any way we wanted to. Our only task was to use this prompt to come up with a compelling and interesting concept, and communicate that concept effectively.
For my banner, I chose to take a light-hearted and sarcastic approach with my concept. My banner is a critique on SpaceX and their mission to bring people to space so we can colonize Mars instead of solving our issues here on Earth. My banner also takes a jab at how this option is only viable and accessible to the rich. The style was inspired by Disney's Tomorrowland and retro-futurism posters from the Fallout game series. The elements were created in Adobe Illustrator and the final layout was done in Adobe InDesign.
A few of the Workshop students were chosen to get their banners printed and hung up around campus. I was fortunate enough to have my design chosen! Below is a photo of how my banner looks in real life!
"Personify" Posters. Fall 2021.
For my second project, I was put in a group! We were given three prompts to choose from and we had to create a design solution for one of them. The prompt my group agreed upon was to solve "the future of television".
We decided to create a brand and an application called Personify. This application would be an addition to your cable television package. Personify would provide a tailored television watching experience that is unique to each viewer. This is achieved through user profiles, changeable preferences, and the option for tailored ads. We came to this solution by collecting data through surveys and interviews to see what people like when they watch their favorite shows.
There were three deliverable aspects for this project: the application demo, a video, and posters. I was responsible for the poster designs, which are pictured below. These were created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.
"Restless" AR Poster & Brochure. Fall 2021.
For my last Workshop project, each student was able to come up with their own unique concept to explore. I chose to explore animation in Adobe After Effects and to work with Augmented Reality. For this project, we installed an entire pop-up show on campus. So, all of the aspects of my project are designed for the real-life space.
I came up with the idea to create an animated poster and brochure to destigmatize the mental health issues of depression and insomnia. The poster shows a peaceful nighttime scene, but when you scan a QR code (this was installed on the poster display at the pop-up show), the scene transforms into a scary scene that shows how it feels to have insomnia. The animation is displayed below the poster.
To go along with this poster, I created a brochure that talks about my experience with my mental health issues and how I was able to seek help. I also added some tips for the viewer, in case this is an issue they experience as well.
